At Enbecom we take our commitment to our clients and the environment very seriously. That’s why we have partnered with Ecologi, to offset our carbon emissions by supporting various climate projects, such as tree planting and renewable energy.
By supporting these initiatives, we hope to make a positive impact on the environment and contribute to a more sustainable future. Here are two projects we’ve supported:
Protection of the Matavén forest in eastern Colombia
Colombia is known for its megadiverse nature, hosting around 10% of the world’s flora and faunal species, with over 40,000 species of plants estimated to exist in the country. However, deforestation has been a significant challenge, with the loss of 500,000 hectares of forest in the Vichada department alone from 1990 to 2005, accounting for 3.2% of regional forest cover.
The Matavén REDD+ project, located in the Indigenous Reservation of the Matavén Forest in the Vichada department, protects 1,150,212 hectares of tropical forest, preventing emissions that would have taken place without the project. The project employs local residents as rangers and supports sustainable livelihoods that work with the forest, rather than depleting it. Co-projects also provide benefits to almost 16,000 Indigenous people living locally, including education, healthcare, dental services, sanitation, and food security.
This project will prevent an estimated 3,622,352 tonnes of CO2e emissions per year, during its 30 year lifespan.
Solar PV electricity generation in Indonesia
Indonesia, a country located in Southeast Asia and Oceania, is comprised of over seventeen thousand islands including Sumatra and Bali. It currently has 33 GW of operating coal-fired power generation and is planning to add another 31 GW, making it the fourth largest coal pipeline in the world and accounting for 6% of the global share. To combat this, a shift towards renewable energy generation, such as wind, solar, and geothermal energy, is crucial which Indonesia has great potential for.
This project that promotes renewable energy is located on the island of Lombok. It consists of four solar installations with a total capacity of 42 MW, providing renewable energy to a grid dominated by fossil fuels, resulting in an estimated reduction of 34,000 tonnes of CO2e per year. Additionally, the project includes 18 community development activities and provides 69 local jobs.
