Through our partnership with Ecologi, in 2024 we have helped to support several environmental projects around the globe, along with 4,466 trees being planted in the 3+ years we’ve been involved.

Since the start of our partnership with Ecologi, the impact from Enbecom’s contributions have made a saving of 49.9 tonnes of CO2e. This is the equivalent of 123,802 miles driven in a car or 150m2 of sea ice saved!

Through using the latest climate science, state-of-the-art data and monitoring capabilities, Ecologi uses funding to support real projects that make a real impact for our planet, including reforestation, renewable energy and restoring habitats. Here are just a few of the projects we have supported during 2024:

Repairing water boreholes in Eritrea

Eritrea is a small coastal country in northeast Africa, in which only 19% of the population have access to clean water close to home. Others must travel many miles to find water, or rely on unsafe surface water sources such as rivers or open wells. This Zoba Debub Community Boreholes project will provide long term access to safe and clean drinking water to hundreds of households within the Zoba Debub district in Eritrea, using borehole technology.

Avoiding methane emissions from landfill in Brazil

In response to this environmental challenge, the Macaúbas Landfill Gas Project was initiated. This project has successfully reduced emissions by 102,580 tCO2e during its current monitoring phase. The implementation of this project will both prevent environmentally damaging methane from being released into the atmosphere and export electricity to the grid, while preventing emissions of methane.

Capturing Waste Biogas for Energy in Turkey

The Kayseri Molu Landfill Gas to Energy Project captures methane emissions from the landfill and converts them into electricity. This initiative prevents 30,153 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions annually.

Solar Power Project in Morocco

Morocco remains heavily dependent on fossil fuels, with oil and coal accounting for 57% and 33% of primary energy, respectively. The Ouarzazate solar station, one of the world’s largest concentrated solar power projects, uses concave mirrors to generate 582 MW of power. With the capacity to store up to 7 hours of solar energy, it can supply electricity beyond daylight, making excellent use of the region’s abundant sunlight.

Wind Power Project in Mexico

Although Mexico has significant wind power potential, in 2009, its wind power production constituted a mere 0.13% of the global total. This project aims to avert an average annual emission of 245,015 tonnes of CO2e over an operational period of at least 20 years.

Peatland Restoration and Conservation in Indonesia

Indonesia is home to approximately 36% of the world’s tropical peatlands, yet these critical ecosystems are under increasing threat. From 2000 to 2015, the country experienced an annual average loss of 498,000 hectares of forest. The Katingan Restoration and Conservation Project in Indonesian Borneo seeks to protect and rehabilitate 149,800 hectares of peatland ecosystem.

Protection of the Matavén Forest in Eastern Colombia

The Matavén REDD+ project safeguards 1,150,212 hectares of tropical forest, preventing emissions that would have occurred without the initiative. The project employs local residents as rangers and promotes sustainable livelihoods that work in harmony with the forest rather than exploiting it.

Distributing Cleaner Cookstoves in Kenya

Over the course of this initiative, more than 380,000 cookstoves will be distributed, preventing the release of 4.3 million tonnes of CO2 emissions and reducing wood fuel consumption by 2.4 million tonnes.

Turning Local Organic Waste into Electricity in India

India’s energy demands are rapidly increasing, with the nation ranking among the highest in electricity consumption and overall energy use globally. This project mitigates methane emissions from improper waste disposal, achieving annual reductions of up to 70,000 tCO2e. Between 2016 and 2020, it also supported 73 local jobs.

Tree planting

We are finishing 2024 with a fantastic 4,466 trees planted since the start of our partnership with Ecologi. Trees help to restore healthy ecosystems, sequestering and storing even more carbon from soils and plant biomass. These projects also promote employment, gender equality, new income streams, more diverse food sources to support a healthier diet, and improved community facilities.

If you’d like to help support these projects in 2025, you can also sign your business up with Ecologi or purchase one of our hosting plans. You can view our profile here to learn more about Enbecom’s contribution.
